A more recent development is the use of Sasobit^® plus Sasolwax^® Link TXplus SBR Latex emulsions in the modification of asphalts for Hot Mix applications, Cold Mix applications and Emulsion applications.

Usually when Latex Emulsions are added to hot asphalt an unworkable "gel" or "fudge" like consistency results with enormous volume expansion. This makes the mixture unworkable and also requires substantially increased working volume (tank capacity).

However a combination of Sasobit^® plus Sasolwax^® Link TXplus Latex Emulsion results in a workable, modified asphalt in short cycle time and without the need for high shear mixers. Sasolwax^® Link TXperforms the dual functions of de-foamer and cross-linker in one operation. This opens up new options and opportunities for asphalt modification. Similarly the new technology can be applied to Cold Mixes and Emulsions as well. This technology eliminates the inconveniences of having to handle and work with SBR polymer in bales/slabs.
