In the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry waxes and related products have varied applications. Waxes provide tackiness, give consistency, act as film builder, emollient, carrier or hydrophobing agent.
Important applications for waxes in the cosmetic industry are oil-in-water and water-in-oil formulations e.g. for creams and lotions. Solid waxes are used in lipsticks and depilatory waxes.

A special application for waxes in this industry is histology wax. For this application tissue is embedded for microscopic diagnostics.
Only waxes of extremely high purity and clear shine are used here.
